BLAZON

BRASÃO

Heraldry is the art that studies the meaning and origin of the blazons as well as its creation and language. This language uses specific terms, that are not used normally, and it is strict and rigorous at the symbol description.

The fact the blazon is an official symbol, it must be created with a legal document, as reproduced bellow:
Article 19 – The Blazon of Socorro City, that was projected by Reverend Father Egidio José Porto, with a heraldry audit of Professor Arcinoé Antônio Peixoto de Faria, from the encyclopedia Heraldic of the City, is described in heraldic terms as: “ The Escudo Samnítico (ref: Modern French Blazon that has a rectangle format and rounded boards) put above a heraldic crown of eight towers of “argente” (silver), in a space of “jalde três asnas” or “chaveiros de goles” (three triangle strips on the yellow area), one strip “ondada de blau” (blue) in which three fishes are carried. On both sides, two little shields with a lily (on the left side) and a manly arm holding a key (on the right side), all in silver. As supports, on the right it has a coffee branch naturally fructified and on the left a smoke pole, also natural, intersected. Bellow, there is a red strip with the Argentinean letters with the name of the city: SOCORRO”.
§1° - The Blazon described in this article has the following symbolical interpretation, in heraldic terms:
The shield “samnítico”, used to represent the Blazon of Arms of Socorro was the first style introduced in Portugal with a French influence. Moreover, it was inherited by
a)the Brazilian heraldry as an evocative of the colonizing race and main former of our nationality.
b) the main crown that overlaps the universal symbol of the domain blazons that, being made of an argente (silver) of eight towers – of which only five are visible in perspectives in the draw -, classifies the represented city as the “Second Highness”, or  in other words, the main location of the place.
c) the jalde (gold) metal from the area of the shield, is a heraldic symbol of glory, splendor , greatness, richness, sovereignty, that is carried by three trusses or key chains of “gole” (red), constituting the armories of the Dorta family, a tribute to the founders of the city.
d)the color “goles” (red) symbolizes the dedication, love, paternal, audacity, intrepidity, courage and bravery.
e) the strip “ondada de blau” (blue), on top of the triangle red strips, reminds of the Blazon of the Peixe river, that passes through the city.
f)the color blau (blue) is a symbol of justice, nobleness, perseverance, warmth and loyalty; and the metal “argente” (silver) represents peace, work, friendship, prosperity, purity and religion.
g)the little shield on the superior part of the blazon, the “escudete de dextra”, carried by a gold lily is a tribute to the patroness of the city (Nossa Senhora Padroeira da Cidade); the other little shield on the right which shows a manly arm holding a key (all in silver) symbolizes the hospitality of the people from Socorro in a friendly gesture of giving the key of the city.
h)in the external trappings, the coffee branch and the smoke pole, all natural, remind the main products from the gifted and fertile land, the pillars of the economy of the city; at the red strip bellow, in silver letters, the identifier name of the city “Socorro”.
§2° - The Blazon of conformity with heraldic rules will obey, in any reproduction, the modular construction of seven modules of length to eight of height, taken from the shield.

FLAG

FLAG

The flag of the city also has to be officially approved by a legal document.
Article 6 – The Flag of the City of Socorro, projected by the heraldry Arcinoé Antônio Peixoto de Faria, from the encyclopedia of the city, is described as: “quartered in a cross, in which the four parts are blue, constituted by four yellow strips, carried by red under strips, that come out from the vertices of a white central lozenge, where the Blazon of Armories is applied”.
§1° - The style of the flag obeys the Portuguese heraldic tradition, from which we have inherited the canons and rules, with the option of using styles from the Tertianship period, hexagonal or octagonal, sustaining a geometric figure on the top, at the pole or at the center, where the Blazon is applied, having the same colors as the shield space.
§2° - The Blazon from the flag symbolizes the Government of the City, and the white central lozenge, where the Blazon is applied, represents the main city of the state; the strips that cross the lozenge, dividing the flag space in quarters, represent the rural priorities of the city.
Article 7° - Following the heraldic rules, the Flag of the City will have official dimensions that
were adopted from the National Flag, taking in consideration 14 modules from the pole height
by 20 modules of length from the rectangle.
§Unique – The Flag of the City could be reproduced in little flags made of paper, at
celebrations of special facts, always obeying the heraldic modules and colors.

HYMN

Lyrics:
Aluísio Douglas Ferrari
Music: Pedro Ferragutti

I
Giant cot f the braves,
Of thousand glories
Of immortal traditions
Nest of faith and tenderness
Of sweet peace,
Of enchantment and pleasure!
Oh! My Place of dreams,
Where love built its temple and stayed!
Engraving at the feet of Mantiqueira mountain,
Your hard worker people, with affection have built it!

II
Feel when breathing or saluting, from the breeze
Its freshness!
See, your hills almost blues, your sky
With so much light
From the fields its greenness!
In the fountains and waterfalls, the crystalline
Water that run,
It is pray and commune with Nature
While you live!

III
Therefore, Socorro is party and sun, work,
Enchantment and light
From the dawn to the red sky!
Smooth nights, gentle moonlight
A flash of hope and faith
Always and always shinning!
